Synopsis: It's been six weeks since angels of the apocalypse descended to demolish the modern world. Street gangs rule the day while fear and superstition rule the night. When warrior angels fly away with a helpless little girl, her seventeen-year-old sister Penryn will do anything to get her back.
Anything, including making a deal with an enemy angel.
Raffe is a warrior who lies broken and wingless on the street. After eons of fighting his own battles, he finds himself being rescued from a desperate situation by a half-starved teenage girl.
Traveling through a dark and twisted Northern California, they have only each other to rely on for survival. Together, they journey toward the angels' stronghold in San Francisco where she'll risk everything to rescue her sister and he'll put himself at the mercy of his greatest enemies for the chance to be made whole again.
My Rating | My ThoughtsWow! This book was nothing like I expected. When first going in to this book I expected it to be about your typical angel that comes to earth intending to destroy it then falls in love with a human kind of book, but this book was nothing like that. I have read ALOT of books about angels and demons, they all have been pretty much the same but Susan Ee has managed to create a story about angels and completely make it her own. To be honest when I first read the synopsis of the book I was not hooked at all, but I have been consistently recommended to pick up this book and I did which was one of the best decisions I have ever made. In this book we are given a unique and creative plot with plenty of action, suspense, gore, and just enough of an underlying romance to keep everyone happy. The perfect combination I would say. In Angelfall angels are literally corrupt and quite crazy may I add, but still of course absolutely gorgeous just how I like it! Susan Ee has managed to create a beautiful well developed world with amazing characters that I took quite a liking to. Lets first start with Penryn. How could anyone not like her? She's loyal, strong, funny and pretty badass! She's practically had to be the adult in her family taking on the responsibility of her crazy mother and little sister. I loved how determined she was to get her sister back at any cost, she didn't let humans, angles nor creepy hybrid scorpion demons stop her from getting her sister Paige back. I feel she is completely selfless and should give her self a lot more credit for being as strong as she is in the worst situations. Angels have pretty much taken over earth and she still manages to keep herself together for her family. Next we have Penryn's mother. I would have to say her mother Is one of my favourite characters in the book. She's completely lost her mind, super weird, thinks she's talking to her own inner demons and puts makeup on dead corpses! how could you not her like her? She was just a ball of fun to read about. Last but definitely not the least there is Raffe. His rude, unthankful and an ass of an Archangel but we cant help but love him. His also charismatic mysterious and utterly gorgeous. From the instant Raffe's character got introduced I just knew I would like him. I salute to you Susan Ee, not just anyone can write the way you do. Your wrting was fantastic, while reading this book I could so easily picture what was happening and not all writers have the ability to do this. The pacing of the book was divine and up to point. I can so easily say this is the best angel/ post apocalyptic/ urban fantasy book I have EVER read! I without a doubt rate this book a 5 out of 5 star rating. |
