Just one day and Just one year by Gayle Forman
Series: Companion novels
Published by: Speak on August 20th 2013 (Just one day) Dutton Children on October 10th 2013 (just one year) Genres: Contemporary, romance Pages: 400 & 336. Format: eBook
Synopsis: Allyson Healey's life is exactly like her suitcase—packed, planned, ordered. Then on the last day of her three-week post-graduation European tour, she meets Willem. A free-spirited, roving actor, Willem is everything she’s not, and when he invites her to abandon her plans and come to Paris with him, Allyson says yes. This uncharacteristic decision leads to a day of risk and romance, liberation and intimacy: 24 hours that will transform Allyson’s life.
A book about love, heartbreak, travel, identity, and the “accidents” of fate, Just One Day shows us how sometimes in order to get found, you first have to get lost. . . and how often the people we are seeking are much closer than we know.
#2 Synopsis: Just One Day. Just One Year. Just One Read.
Before you find out how their story ends, remember how it began....
When he opens his eyes, Willem doesn’t know where in the world he is—Prague or Dubrovnik or back in Amsterdam. All he knows is that he is once again alone, and that he needs to find a girl named Lulu. They shared one magical day in Paris, and something about that day—that girl—makes Willem wonder if they aren’t fated to be together. He travels all over the world, from Mexico to India, hoping to reconnect with her. But as months go by and Lulu remains elusive, Willem starts to question if the hand of fate is as strong as he’d thought. . . .
The romantic, emotional companion to Just One Day, this is a story of the choices we make and the accidents that happen—and the happiness we can find when the two intersect.

My Rating | My ThoughtsGosh that is really one way to end a book Gayle Forman! and keep your readers insane with anticipation in wanting to know what happens next. These books definitely left us with a cliff hanger. Just one day really inspired me to just stop planning and thinking about everything so much and just go out there and experience the world. To get lost once in a while and do things you wouldn't normally do. Go on an adventure just for the fun of it because life is really short and we may never get the chance again. This book made me want to so badly go to Paris it was great😃 The journey Alyson takes is not to only find Willem but herself. She begins to find out that she has a voice and an opinion and that she doesn't need to be Lulu to be the person she wants to be. Alyson was a fantastic character to follow, watching her grow and develop throughout the book was definitely a highlight for me. I personally love all the Shakespeare references on the book, because I personally love his work. The writing style was phenomenal as well as the pacing of the book. To get through the novel was just so easy because it was well structured and put together by Gayle Forman. I don't read to many contemporary books but lately I have just been on a rollercoaster of just contemporary based book. I am a sucker for cute romances. Now lets talk about the lovely Mr William. How can anyone not be charmed by him. If an absolutely gorgeous, funny and mysterious Dutch guy offered to take you around Paris for a day how could you say no? I thought creating a companion novel just one year of Willem's side of the story was just the icing on the cake. In just one day we didn't get much about Willem, there where so many question unanswered and at times I would be weary of Willem. Maybe thinking he isn't who he says he is. But after reading just one year everything gets cleared up and we love Willem even more. I had no idea he was looking for her to!!! Its just the cutest. Before I continue I just want to clear something up. Was it just me that thought that near the end Willem was going to declare his love for Kate? I was seriously panicking when I thought that. But its all good it was just about directing and acting business!! Just to add I loved the back ground story of Bram and Yael. It was just the cutest most adorable thing. I also enjoyed how Willem's and Yaels relationship improved and developed. Both books definitely made me think about my own life and how fast it goes by and how important it is to not let anything hold you back. I am dying of anticipation here. I need to get my hands on the novella just one night to see what happens after he lets her in the door. Because I think I'm speaking for every one when I say I NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS?? Maybe there will be another journey or another day in Paris or maybe just more accidents? 😉 |
