Okay, the whole world is a Simon Snow fan...
But for Cath, being a fan is her life—and she’s really good at it. She and her twin sister, Wren, ensconced themselves in the Simon Snow series when they were just kids; it’s what got them through their mother leaving.
Reading. Rereading. Hanging out in Simon Snow forums, writing Simon Snow fan fiction, dressing up like the characters for every movie premiere.
Cath’s sister has mostly grown away from fandom, but Cath can’t let go. She doesn’t want to.
Now that they’re going to college, Wren has told Cath she doesn’t want to be roommates. Cath is on her own, completely outside of her comfort zone. She’s got a surly roommate with a charming, always-around boyfriend, a fiction-writing professor who thinks fan fiction is the end of the civilized world, a handsome classmate who only wants to talk about words... And she can’t stop worrying about her dad, who’s loving and fragile and has never really been alone.
For Cath, the question is: Can she do this?
Can she make it without Wren holding her hand? Is she ready to start living her own life? Writing her own stories?
And does she even want to move on if it means leaving Simon Snow behind?

My Rating | My ThoughtsLet me just start out by saying why didn't I pick this book up sooner? I don't typically pick up contemporary books very often I'm usually the supernatural dystopian book kind of girl but I am so happy I did eventually read this one. Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell was the cutest most adorable book I have ever read. I was engrossed into the book immediately within the first few chapters. I literally had a smile on my face throughout the entire book. I don't think I have ever read about a more relatable character than Cather. When people ask me what is a character you most relate to, out of all the books you have read ? I would find it quite hard to answer that question, but now I know my answer would be Cather. Cather was an amazing protagonist to read about, I felt the development of her character, how she grew as a person, how she began to find her self was fantastic. Cather was a very unique and funny narrator. I love her obsession with Simon Snow and her passion for writing. The connection and relationship Cather had with Simon Snow, Baz and her fan fiction was so relatable. I think ever single reader has that connection with a book series they have been following for how ever long. Besides Cather I loved the other characters in the book to, like Levi and Reagan. Levi was so much fun to read to about, his the most happiest and nicest person you will ever meet. Reagan was a ball of fun to, I love how layed back and chilled she is. She just goes with the flow and doesn't let anything bother her. Cather's relationship with Levi I thought was great as they where perfect contrasts of each other. Other characters like Nick and Wren I didn't really mind. From the start I was not the biggest fan of Nick, he was just looking out for himself in my opinion. I kind of have mixed feelings for Wren at first I liked her then I didn't like her then at the end I began to like her again. Moving onto Rainbow Rowells writing style, in that department she is phenomemal. Her writing is absolutely beautiful. Over all I have enjoyed this book so much. I really wish it was a little longer but besides that I give this book a 5 out of 5 star rating, and highly recommend anyone to pick up this book, you will definitely not regret it. |
