If you haven't watched the film, I would advised you not to read this review. I don't think I put in any big spoilers but just to be sure, watch the movie then come back :) So I went to go and watch Mocking J part 1, it definitely wasn't as good as Catching fire but it was still an emotional, action packed thrill ride. I can not judge this film by the book as I have not read the books (yes I know that is a major sin in the book community, I will get to the series soon!) so I'm basing my review on just purely the movie with no reference to the books. The movie on its own was fantastic. I feel in this film we got see a lot of emotion from Katniss and see how she is both mentally and physically dealing with everything she's been through. In addition even though we don't see very much of Peeta, the scenes we do see him in, so clearly show how he is also changing and how distraught and kind of damaged he is since everything has happened to him; the games and the brain washing and torturing from the capitol. The district 13 set up was phenomenal. The whole underground concept with the spiraling stairs was designed very well. All the scenes where the civilians are attacking the capital was awesome!. The scene where they climb the tress and bomb all the guards was so thrilling to watch. My favourite line of the whole movie and probably the line that stood out to everyone was "If we burn, you burn with us". That single sentence is so powerful. Compared to the other two films this one was way darker, I loved it! We have moved on from the actual games and progressed to the rebellion, the propaganda and the uprisings, it was so.. I can't even find the words. Despite the darkness of this film there where still funny parts, the scene where Katniss is trying to act for the propaganda video/promo was hilarious. As the others said acting is not her forte. My favourite scene would have to be when Katniss sings her song and then we get this montage of the civilians from the districts marching together whilst also reciting the song. It definitely brang tears to my eyes. Jennifer Lawrence's performance in this film was brilliant! After seeing every movie she continues to surprise me. She's a fantastic actor! I can not wait for Mocking J part 2. |
