My Rating | My ThoughtsSo I have finally watched Vampire Academy the film. I know its been out for a while now but I have been putting off watching it for some time now, because as you all know this movie was an adaptation of Richelle Meads Vampire Academy series. I absolutely loved that book series, its actually my favourite book series of all time, and when I found out it was going to be turned into a film I was quite excited to see how it would turn out but nervous at the same time because I didn't want the film to ruin how amazing the books where. When the first trailers to this film got released I didn't really like it at all, the vibe of it was not right. It looked like a comedy/ lame high school twilight film to me. I had extremely high expectations when going to watch this film, because for one it was getting directed and scripted by the Water brothers who are amazing film makers! and two I felt this movie had to be fantastic because it already had a built in fan base that expected high quality stuff considering the success of the books. Moving on to the actually film, I watched it and was extremely disappointed. I didn't like the whole comedy aspect of it, I wanted it to be a little more series and badass! I know the book had funny aspects as Rose was telling the story but it was also series at times which the movie for me didn't portray well. It was like one big joke. I know I shouldn't be comparing the book and movie so much but I cant help. If you decide to make a book to movie adaptation I feel you should keep it true to the book. I would have loved to see some great montages in the film, in scenes where Rose is training with Dimitri or when Rose and Lisa are at school. The scenes in the film where cut very short and where so fast, I felt that there wasn't much long conversations and dialogue between the characters. In my opinion if you hadn't read the book previously watching the movie would be very confusing to you as I felt the development of the world and the background story was not very explained well. Now lets talk about the characters. I think the casting of Zoey for Rose Hathaway wasn't to bad, she definitely looked like the Rose I pictured and had the same attitude and personality about her. I think overall her character was played well although I wanted her to be a little but more series at times. The person I pictured as Lisa in the book and the person that played her in the movie where so different to me. Lucy Fry is an amazing actor but her playing Lisa in the film just didnt work for me. I don't know why this bothered me so much but I hated the fact that Lisa was taller than Rose I always pictured Lisa being the petite and small one. Dimitri, Dimitri, Dimitri he will always be my favourite fictional character of all time. I wanted to cry when I saw the casting of him in the film. Not just anyone can play THE Dimitri Belikov. His the definition of beautiful and perfection he fights and carries himself like a God. I understand that it would be hard for the directors to cast someone that would fit that description to a T. So overall I feel Danila did a good job, considering he was under a lot of pressure to fit the image of someone that everyone who has read the book visualizing differently. I feel so bad just saying negative things about this movie because I loved the books so much, I know that adapting a loved book like Vampire academy into film would be a hard task. So lets name some positives. Out of all the characters and casting I absolutely loved Mr Christian Ozera. He was so perfectly played and portrayed! He was quite gorgeous to. I also loved Mason, his such a kind soul. The setting of St Vladimir's school I thought was Fantastic it looked creepy and dark, I liked how the school bell for fifth period would go at 1am in the morning. I liked the training scenes with Rose they where badass, I thought the directors did a wonderful job in portraying the aspect of Lisa's and Roses bond to. Overall I rate this movie a 2 out of 5 stars. Hopefully the second movie will go through and be exceptional. |
