This is my first blog post from my new segment My Bookish Things Topic Discussion Week. Where I chose a book related topic and just share my thoughts and discuss it with you. As you can see from the title the topic is 'drum role......' Music and books. So the question is do you listen to music whilst reading books?
I know there are some readers who will say yes and some no, I think in the end it all comes down to personal preference.
Personally for me the answer is yes! of course I do, but only with certain kinds of books and when I say kinds I mean genres. I tend to only listen to music whilst reading contemporary books and not while reading paranormal or fantasy or dystopian books. I know that is weird but it works for me. I think reading a book and listening to music just makes you go into that zone that you don't want to be disturbed from. A place that you are just so engrossed in the book and the song that nothing else matters, that moment is just great! There are only specific types of musical genres that I will listen to though, nothing to heavy. I quite enjoy listening to classical pieces and film scores.
I do understand why some readers may choose not to listen to music. Some may feel it is to distracting or that they need complete silence and that's perfectly okay. Some times I also just want some piece and quite while reading a book and don't require music.
