my rating | my thoughtsWhen I heard that Becca Fitzpatrick was releasing a new stand alone novel, I knew I just had to get it. I didn't even need to read the synopsis, I was already completely sold with the fact that she wrote it. Becca Fitzpatrick's Hush Hush series was one of the first young adult books I ever picked up and read, it was absolutely amazing and from there I fell in love with her writing style and her stories. This book was no different, Black Ice is definitely a page turner full of suspense, unpredicted events, thrilling action and mystery that just keeps readers reading, engrossed and continuously attempting to uncover what's going to happen next. You Mrs. Fitzpatrick did not disappoint, this book was absolutely fantastic! I flew threw this so fast, I never wanted to put the book down because stopping was just not an option. Once you begin the book you don't want to stop until you figure out everything! This book is full of mystery and sketchy characters you don't know who to trust. I found myself continuously changing my mind on who I thought were the good guys and who were the bad. I really enjoyed trying to put the pieces of the puzzles in the story together to try figure out who this 'killer' was. The construction of characters in this book was done so well. I really like the main protagonist Britt. I felt throughout the book watching her develop and grow as a person was great. I loved seeing her finally become more independent and less reliant on others to look after her. As well as seeing her begin to believe in her self and find strength in herself. I thought she handled the situation she was in really well, by the end of the book I thought she was pretty bad ass! Then comes Jude, I was a bit weary of him in the beginning but then after we uncovered his motives I was sold, I fell for him hard. (I have a definite weakness for mysterious bad boys!) The romance that kindled between Britt and Jude was so perfectly done. It was not the over the top romance love thing but love that sprang from experiencing something extremely life changing together. Don't get me started on Korbie the minute she was introduced I just did not like her. Calvin was something else entirely. I had mixed feeling for him through out the novel I did like him at one stage then I didn't at another but near the end it was evident he completely lost the plot. But I don't entirely blame him, perhaps his father damaged him in ways no one can understand. I thought for a stand alone this book was paced perfectly, the story didn't feel short, the ending didn't feel cut short. Everything just flowed. The Epilogue was perfect, reading this passage I was smiling from ear to ear like some idiot (I couldn't help myself I am a sucker for cute romances and happily ever after's!) I don't think I need to address the writing style of this book, because it was just so easy to get into and be comfortable in the world Becca F. created. Overall I rate this book a definite 5 out of 5. I highly highly recommend this book to anyone. This book is to be released on the 7th of October 2014, so mark your calendar's and when the book is released buy it! Also I want to say a big thank you to Net galley for providing me with a copy of this book, you guys are amazing! |
